Job Description



DCS Asset Maintenance (DCSAM) is seeking a motivated, dependable, and safety-focused Area Manager to oversee daily highway maintenance operations and lead field crews in support of our VDOT contracts. This is a working leadership position responsible for supervising maintenance personnel while actively participating in highway maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills who is committed to safety, quality, and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and direct the daily activities of field crews in accordance with VDOT contract requirements.
  • Assist the Project Manager with daily operations, project planning, and crew management.
  • Lead by example as a working manager by performing highway maintenance duties alongside field personnel as needed.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of company vehicles and equipment.
  • Manage inventories of equipment, materials, tools, and stockpiles.
  • Perform and oversee highway maintenance activities, including:
    • Fence repair
    • Traffic sign installation and repair
    • Litter and debris removal
    • Vegetation and right-of-way maintenance
    • Other routine and emergency roadway maintenance tasks
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies, VDOT standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Respond to emergency roadway incidents and weather-related events, including after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent) required.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous supervisory experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or a related field required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of highway maintenance practices, materials, methods, equipment, and traffic control procedures, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Experience planning, scheduling, and overseeing the work of field personnel, as well as operating, maintaining, and repairing highway maintenance equipment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to read and interpret work orders, plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or the ability to obtain one. Must be available to respond to emergency callouts outside of normal business hours and comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy.
